What is IMPACT-EV?
The main objective of IMPACT-EV is to develop a permanent system of selection, monitoring and evaluation of the various impacts of Social Sciences and the Humanities research. IMPACT-EV will not only develop indicators and standards for evaluating scientific impact of SSH research but especially, for evaluating their political and social impact. This project started in January 2014 and will be finished in December 2017 (48 months).
Who will benefit from IMPACT-EV outcomes?
Beneficiaries of the project are various. Researchers, funding and evaluating agencies, policy-makers, and end-users will benefit to the extent that the project will contribute to identify the most successful ways to monitor and evaluate the impact of Social Sciences and the Humanities’ research.
SSH researchers will also benefit through the increased clarity of criteria and standards for impact assessment. Therefore the social utility of the work they do can be made more visible and clear to citizenry. Research funding agencies will improve their indicators and research evaluation processes before they grant projects, while monitoring them and once they are finished. In parallel, IMPACT-EV will also explore how SSH research can strengthen the European Research Area by enhancing interdisciplinarity, transdisciplinarity, international cooperation, youth training, mobility, and alignment with EU 2020 targets among other issues. The ultimate beneficiaries of the overall project are European citizenry and civil society at large (end-users) as IMPACT-EV will contribute to enhance SSH research social impact.
What do we mean by social impact?
Social impact are the social improvements achieved as a consequence of implementing the results of a particular research project or study. Our societies have already defined societal challenges and goals (such as EU2020 targets, UN Millennium Goals, etc.) and need research developments and innovations to address them.
What do we mean by political impact?
Transference is the use of research results by policy makers, companies, NGOs or citizens to plan and carry out their interventions. Political impact is a subset of transference.
What do we mean by scientific impact?
Scientific impact is the communication, evaluation and use of the research results by the scientific community. Dissemination is the communication of the research results to the society at large, through journals, mass media and social media.
